I am still having a hard time believing it is January. The year was brought in with a turkey dinner and a few close friends. Low key, but enjoyable. Always enjoyable! I didn’t really make a resolution this year. January kind of snuck up on me and I didn’t have time to plan. Maybe it’s for the better… every time I plan a resolution, it ends up buried in the snow by February. Instead of resolutions, I am going to set myself on a course of gradual self-improvement, inspired by Lindsay. A little at a time, right? So here’s a list of things I want to do in 2009. Little things (and some bigger things) that aren’t quite resolutions (which are meant to be broken) but rather… goals? Hopes and dreams? What? How much cheesier could that get?
- Take more pictures than 2008 (5000+ pictures! Ahh!).
- Bring my camera more places and be less shy about whipping it out.
- Take decent portraits of all of my friends; print these portraits in 8×10 and frame them!
- Learn how to use my flash effectively.
- Take road trips. Day trips. Weekend trips. Long trips. Short trips. Become familiar with the open road (and take lots of pictures on these trips.
- Go to more shows.
- Learn to love Worcester. (Wait: What?)
- Leave the apartment more, especially by myself. Bring my camera.
- Finish my afghan.
- Have more fun.
- Be a more interesting person.
Okay, the last one may sounds strange, but I think the rest of the list will help me achieve the last one. I want to be more sure of myself in this new year. It’s been happening slowly over the past few years, and the last area I need some confidence in is my “photography” (snapshots?). I still feel so unsure with a camera in my hand, like I am faking it. But I know I am decent, and I know that with more practice I can be better. I also want to find more inspirations in photography. And become better with photoshop. But those are on the back burner for now… I think some self-improvement is necessary first.
And now, an inspirational song! Dismemberment Plan – Following Through.
Happy New Year!
