Recording Session

Yesterday, I tagged along with Jesse and Boxcutter Facelift to their first studio recording session ever. Usually they just record in their jam room, which tends to end with Jesse frustrated beyond belief with the recording process and an almost-finished album that just get tossed around the jam room for months. Now, I am not a metal fan in the least. But being the girlfriend of a guy who plays in two metal bands and owns countless numbers of grindcore, death metal, black metal, and other various dangerous-sounding genres, I am more familiar with the style of music than I would have ever imagined myself being. I must say this though: Boxcutter are fun to hang out with, and despite the scary-sounding tunes, they’re all really cool guys. So while they rocked, rolled, and growled, I sat around taking pictures and reading Middlesex by Jeffery Eugenides. (HIGHLY recommended, even though I’ve yet to complete it. It’s so well written, and the story is excellent. Oh, and while you’re at it… read The Virigin Suicides too. Same author, another excellent book). During breaks, we drank beers and sat out in the humidity, and for lunch we got poutine. Poutine! Gravy and cheese curd on french fries! The gravy was awesome, and the cheese curd a little strange. It squeeked when you chewed on it. It was, however, delicious all together. The place was really cool too… the owner, who is obviously from Canada, cooked all the food. And he gave me a free cheeseburger and fries on top of the cheeseburger I had already ordered. The extra food is sitting in my fridge here in Worcester, and I doubt it’ll get eaten, which is a shame. So good. They toast their buns flat, and the fries were simple and delicious. And that poutine. Yum. So, if you’re ever in West Bridgewater, MA, check them out. You’ll have heartburn all day (see Dave’s face below), but it’s totally worth it. Now, on to the pictures. I have to go check on my banana bread. Looking forward to eating it with some homemade ice cream… my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
