Emily’s Promenade

May 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

Emily and MomMy little sister’s prom was on Saturday night, and I was designated to photograph this momentous occasion. I wish I had taken more pictures, but being the moody seventeen-year-old that she is, I could only get off about 30 shots of her at the house before she was pushing the camera away. It’s too bad too… she looked so perty!

Emily is not one for dresses and frill. Her hair is a different color every time I come home. She’s always wearing an array of neon-colored bracelets that she makes when she’s bored. Her eye make-up always matches her clothing. She’s eccentric and original. I am none of those things. We don’t look even a little bit alike. Okay, maybe a little bit… but only if you look hard.

I was so jealous of her dress. It was almost exactly the dress I wanted for my senior prom but couldn’t find anywhere. It looked so perfect on her, though.

So anyway, the photographs. I resisted the urge to convert them all to black and white and played around with color. I think I found an effect that worked really well for the pictures. I’m still trying to develop a style, but I think I’m getting there. I’m trying to copy other things I see, which is helping a lot. Let me know what you think… I need the criticism.

I also took a bunch of group photos of Emily and her friends, and I was really pleased with how they came out. I saw some of the pictures that her friends posted… one of her friend’s fathers has a nicer camera with a nicer lens, but the post-processing I did on mine made my pictures pop so much more. Boo-ya. I’d post them, but they’re boring.

Here are some others from before Emily left:
